Last November, I had the chance to photograph Regina Caeli at Villa Disinuebe in Lucban, Quezon. The place was sleek and modern, with clean architecture and a private pool that added a polished vibe to the session. Visually, it was stunning — but lighting-wise, it gave me a bit of a challenge.
Working with Mixed Light
The shoot took place during golden hour, but the venue’s tungsten ambient lighting clashed with my flash. Warm tones from the house and cool light from my flash didn’t naturally blend, so I had to work around that.
To balance things out:
- I matched my flash power closely to the ambient
- I used warming gels to shift the flash color closer to the room’s tone
- White balance was manually set in-camera to stay consistent
- Then in post, I fine-tuned everything inside Capture One Pro to smooth out color shifts and keep the mood intact
Simple Setup, Elegant Results
Despite the technical hurdles, the shots came out clean, elegant, and true to the feel of the location. The combo of Regina’s presence and the minimalist lines of Villa Disinuebe created a nice contrast that really stood out in the final photos.
